Originally by: roqxi I lost a ship yesterday, a destroyer, to roughly 7 'guristas destroyers' in a cosmos level 1 complex. I never stood a chance, they simply appeared on top of me (as if spawned, all at once), and began orbiting and warp scrambling, i couldn't hit/track them as they were about 1.5km away (normally a rat gets nowhere near me), even my 2 75mm rails couldn't hit, and eventually 7 of them took my shields down and it was gg. I don't mind getting killed in a game, but when i am put in a position where surviving is impossible i get annoyed.
Now i know the rules of eve, the net worth of the destroyer and all fittings/ammo was about 3mil, I can afford to lose that 'easy', and i got 900k back on insurance, but i am thinking what if i had decided to, and it would be perfectly reasonable to do so in 'secure space', pilot a very well equipped, faction/deadspace fitted tech 2 frig like a hawk, and lost it to similar circumstances (just with higher level rats)? What would my position be if i were to petition on such a loss? there was no lag involved with my destroyer, i was fighting another (almost dead) NPC when i was suddenly surrounded by a huge mob, and i never saw any lag with module activation or anything like that.
Am not sure i can invest time in a game in which a few months work could be wiped out by one simple 'glitch', and to have no come back.
cheers.
It does not sound like a glitch, it sounds very much like thats exactly the way it is supposed to work. I run level 4 missions in a bs. There are times that you have 40+ ships shooting at you, ranging from frigs up to npc battleships.
You're still in a destroyer, so I'm going to assume that you are relatively new and inexperienced with the missions.
You should maybe think about looking in the mission forums, but heres just a few hints.
There are pretty much two styles of mission running.
Tanking with short range, or speed/ keeping your distance and long range weapons.
The short range setups tend to do a shocking amount of damage, but you require a very good tank and a little luck not to get splattered. They do have the obvious advantage that you are expecting to get shot.
The long range setups have very little tank, because you assume that the enemies are never going to get near you (in theory anyway!) you load up with high range ammo/ guns and go a hunting.
The destroyer is geared as anti frig platform. From my personal experience you want to equip it with short range guns, and a reasonable tank. "This is what I did!" I hear you cry.
Well, you mention that you couldn't hit them, so didn't stand a chance.
Firstly, why didn't you warp away? You said that "eventually" they took your shield down and it was gg.
Secondly, at close distances your guns find it very difficult to "spin round" or track the target. So what can you do to rectify this?
a stasis webifier.
This module slows down the baddies a lot and enables your guns to track them. Normally, and as long as you are using high damage ammo in short range guns, you can bring down a baddy NPC exceedingly quickly.
Anyway, I hope this helps and that you have better luck next time! RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE!!!
